Seattle University recently announced the appointment of Dr.
Burkhard Englert as the new Department Chair and Amazon Endowed Chair of Computer Science.
Dr.
Englert, who currently holds the position of computer science department chair at Norfolk State University in Virginia, will bring a wealth of experience to his new role.
With previous leadership roles at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, California State University Long Beach, and the University of Northern Colorado, Dr.
Englert is well-versed in cybersecurity, machine learning, distributed computing, distributed algorithms, and transportation network modeling and optimization.

Dr.
Englert will take over from Steve Hanks as the incoming computer science department chair.
In 2021, Seattle U unveiled its renovated Jim and Janet Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation, with Amazon contributing $3 million to the project, showcasing the tech giant’s commitment to education and innovation.
